The Modern Creation Trilogy, Volume III: Society and Creation by Dr. Henry Morris and Dr. John Morris

Reviewed by Tim Chaffey

In the third and final installment of this trilogy (see also Volumes One and Two)the authors focus on the frightening effects evolutionary thinking has wrought on our world.  This book is based on the idea that Jesus taught us about in Luke 43 – 44.  He stated, “For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit.  For every tree is known by its own fruit.”  The evolutionary tree has surely bore numerous “bad fruit.”

The first chapter deals with the extensive influence evolution has had on the sciences.  Texts on biology, astronomy, archaeology, physics, and geology are littered with evolutionary ideas.  The pseudoscience of psychology finds its roots in evolutionary thinking.  While this chapter could have been made into a series of books itself, ample documentation is given to drive home the point: evolution holds a major influence in the world today.  Because of this the authors warn, “Christians ignore it or compromise with it only at great peril to their faith and that of their children.”[1]

The second chapter details the little-known fact that Charles Darwin did not invent evolution.  In fact, it was around long before the Beagle took him to the Galapagos Islands.  The Morrises trace evolution’s long history from ancient Babylon (Babel) to its modern manifestations.  In a very interesting piece of speculation they write about evolution’s possible origin in the mind of Satan himself.

The majority of the book focuses on the numerous ways in which evolution has harmed our world.  As the basis for the communist and fascist regimes of the 20th century it is responsible for the deaths of hundreds of millions of people.  In addition, evolution has been used to fuel racism as it inherently a racist philosophy.[2]  Evolution is at the root of the modern “ecohysteria” movement which denigrates humans (who are made in the image of God) and exalts plants and animals.

Nowhere has evolution had a more damaging effect than in the church.  As Christian leaders compromise with this anti-Christian philosophy the very foundation of the church is weakened.  The psalmist asked so many years ago, “If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (Psalm 11: 3).

Unfortunately, many evangelical leaders are taking an even more dangerous approach to the issue today by ignoring it altogether.  Their apathy in this area sends a message to their followers that one shouldn’t worry about the creation v. evolution issue.  As a result, we are losing a large percentage of the next generation that has been taken captive by evolutionary indoctrination in their schools and churches.

The final chapter of the book emphasizes the dangers and inconsistency of compromising with evolution.  This compromise damages the effectiveness of the church to reach the lost.  It also surprises and shocks many leading evolutionists who are dumbfounded that believers would ever want to think that their God used the most inefficient and cruel method conceivable (evolutionary progress based on the deaths of trillions of organisms over billions of years) to create the world.

This trilogy soundly refutes arguments made by those who compromise on this issue.  The first book shows their theological inconsistencies and fallacies.  The second demonstrates their poor scientific basis for doing so.  Finally, this final book shows the societal dangers that have always accompanied acceptance of this “doctrine of demons” known as evolution.

[2] This is not a claim that all evolutionists are racists nor do the authors claim that evolution caused racism.  Racism was certainly around long before evolution became popularized by Darwin.  Nevertheless, since man allegedly evolved from ape-like ancestors it is only natural to assume that some human “races” are closer to the apes than others.
