[Note: This review is for the Revised and Expanded Answers Book which is now out of print.  The link above is for the updated version.]  I believe this may be the most important book (outside of the Bible) that a Christian could ever read.  Unfortunately, most churches do not train people how to defend their faith.  Meanwhile Christians are bombarded with questions everywhere they go.  This is especially true of the Christian student.

The Answers Book provides solid biblical answers to nineteen commonly asked questions concerning the Christian faith (the back cover of the book states "20 questions" but the 20th question is "What can I do after reading this challenging book?" which is not one of the most asked questions concerning Christianity).  More specifically, the questions that are addressed deal with our origins as revealed in the book of Genesis.  While some Christians have been taught that this is merely a side issue or it is irrelevant, the truth of the matter is the enemy has been most successful in attacking the church and God's Word in this area.

I have used this book as a textbook for my creation class for three years.  It is not a technical work but a straightforward, easy-to-understand book that is a must read for all believers.  It is sad to hear so many skeptics repeat the same old argument time after time.  One of the reasons they repeat these questions is that the church has not given any answers.  Well, this book provides the answers to the following questions:

  • Does God exist?

  • Did God really take six days to create everything?

  • What about the gap theory?

  • What about Carbon 14 dating?

  • How can we see distant stars in a young universe?

  • How did "bad things" come about?

  • What about arguments for evolution?

  • Who was Cain's wife?

  • Who were the "sons of God" and nephilim of Genesis 6?

  • Was Noah's flood global?

  • What about continental drift?

  • Where did all the floodwaters go?

  • How did all the animals fit on the ark?

  • How did the freshwater fish survive the flood?

  • Where are all the human fossils?

  • What about the ice age?

  • How could animals get to places like Australia?

  • How did the different "races" arise?

  • What happened to the dinosaurs?

The authors use the Bible and science to provide sound answers to each of these questions.  I cannot recommend this book strongly enough.  It should be used in Sunday School classes, sermons, home schools, Christian schools, Bible studies, small groups, etc.

In a sense, this book is more of an introductory apologetic work.  As mentioned earlier, it is written at a high school level and is intended for wide use by the average layman and student alike.  However, many seasoned apologists would greatly benefit from this book since so many have either compromised with the "billions of years" concept or do not understand the importance of taking Genesis 1 - 11 as written.  The Answers Book lives up to its name by providing the answers so badly needed in the church today.  This is a must read!
